What is Latin dance?
Latin dance is a broad term that encompasses various forms of ballroom dance and folk dance with origins in Latin America and other regions colonized by the Spanish and Portuguese. These dances have been influenced by a variety of cultures and traditions. They are known for their vibrant, energetic movements and are often performed in social settings as well as in dance competitions. Some of the most popular Latin dances include the Salsa (cuban salsa, LA salsa, colombian salsa), Bachata (Dominican or sensual), Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, and Tango, which are celebrated for their rhythmic music and passionate expressio

How long have you been dancing and what's your favourite style?
Hi guys! I have been dancing for over 15 years. I was 4 times Japan salsa champion, reached 3rd place in mundial de pasos litres ” La negra” in 2022 and was second in Asia salsa solo ? bachata pair. I love everything about latin dancing but my favourite styles are salsa & bachata, which I also teach internationally and currently in Madrid, Spain!
How long have you worn Latin dance Shoes Australia and what's your favourite style?
It has only been 6 months but it has been an absolute game changer! I use to wear other dance shoe brand, but since I tried Latin Dance Shoes Australia’s brand, I totally fell in love with your company and brand. I asked you to be an ambassador and here I am now!
I absolutely love the stiletto boots for dancing bachata. I also like the Anna dance shoe style that I find more appropriate for salsa dancing.
What makes a good dance shoes for you and what are the must-have features in a dance shoe?
For me, a good dance shoe is one that feels like an extension of my foot. It needs to provide a seamless connection between my movements and the dance floor. The must-have features in a dance shoe include:
Comfort: The shoe must be comfortable enough to wear for long periods without causing blisters or pain. It should have adequate cushioning to absorb impact and reduce fatigue.
Fit: It’s crucial that the shoe fits perfectly. This means it should be snug but not overly tight, with no slipping at the heel. A proper fit ensures that I can dance with precision and reduces the risk of injury.
Sole Quality: A suede or leather sole is essential for the right balance of grip and slide on the floor. It allows me to execute spins and turns without slipping or sticking.
Support: Good arch support and a firm, stable heel are important, especially when performing complex movements or when on my feet for extended periods.
Flexibility: The shoe must bend with my foot but also provide enough resistance to give me control over my movements.
Heel Height and Width: Depending on the dance style, the heel should be the appropriate height and width to aid in balance and posture. For Latin dances, a slightly higher heel is often preferred.
Durability: High-quality materials are a must so that the shoes can endure the wear and tear of dance practices and performances.
Aesthetics: Lastly, the shoe should look as good as it feels. The style and design should complement my dance attire and help me feel confident on the dance floor.
Do you have any advice for upcoming dancers?
Absolutely! if you love dancing as much as I do, you would want to constantly share your passion and love!
The most important thing is to always learn! Stay humble and constitently learn. Try to see from your teachers’ point of view to learn as much as possible. Also learn from as many people as possible. Each teacher has something to teach and you can learn from them all. Whether it is about a small body weight variation to improve your dance, a general attitude or even learning better depending on each teacher’s pedagogie and style of teaching.
Most important, follow your heart and use dance to express emotions!
